NYFW Trend Report: What to Wear Now

If you're on top of your fashion homework, you know that New York Fashion Week is coming to a close today. NYFW SS '17 brought a whirlwind of designers, journalists, influencers, and enthusiasts to the (arguably) best city in the world for a preview at what designs will be trending come spring and summer next year. While it's always been tradition that designers show collections a season ahead of time, the fashion industry is changing. This year, industry big wigs like Tommy Hilfiger, Alexander Wang, and Tom Ford decided to mix things up. They showed collections that could be bought right off the runway for immediate wear--no waiting until spring to get your hands on the hottest styles.

With that being said, there was quite the mix of designs at NYFW. Some meant for spring, some meant for fall. Nonetheless, trends emerged, and you can definitely wear these trends starting right now and continuing into spring. Below is the Drift On Island Trend Report, complete with the Drift designs that are on-trend and ready to be worn.

Cut-Outs

Peek-a-boo details are not new this season, but they are continuing to hold strong. Cut-outs and peepholes kept the curiosity bubbling, and they just so happen to be one of our favorite design details, too. Turn up the sex appeal with classy cut-outs near the ribs and just watch as the heads turn.

Ruffles

Femininity is at an all-time high these days with romantic ruffles reminiscent of the Victorian era but with a modern twist. The key to avoiding looking like you just left a little girl's tea party (unless you actually did, then, no judgment!) is to accent your look with edgy accessories. Ruffles are a lovely, delicate detail, but you don't want to overdo the youthful vibe. We love ours with killer stilettos and a crop top--just adult enough.

Shirted Up

There's a real divide between the feminine ruffles and masculine Oxford-style shirt variations, but we're not complaining. The structure of "workwear" shirts is perennially appealing, and there is lots of room for personalization. Wear a shirt dress or a shirt unbuttoned to reveal your shoulders--either way, it's chic!

Which trend are you most likely to wear this season? We can't decide which is our favorite.

XOXO,

The Drift Babes
