New Year's Resolutions Actually Worth Trying

And... just like that, we've embarked onto 2017! Happy New Year to all!

One of the best parts about beginning a new year is the feeling of having a fresh start. It's not that we need a calendar page to flip for us to be ready to improve our lives, but it certainly helps to kickstart the process. Something about having a fresh slate encourages a whole new mindset for us, enabling us to focus on and conceptualize the things we want to accomplish this year.

With that being said, plenty of people are penning nearly impossible new year's resolutions. While we admire their courage, we know better than that. We know that sometimes taking small steps to achieve a greater goal is the way to do it... Especially when your ultimate goal is extremely lofty! Many people fail with their resolutions because the goals they set are simply unrealistic.

We, on the other hand, count ourselves somewhat of "optimistic realists." We have high hopes for the future, but we don't let unrealistic expectations blind us to the path of achievement. Make sense? Some people get too focused on the destination that they forget about the journey. But not us.

We've got some new year's resolutions actually worth trying, and they're general enough for you to add them to your list (we won't tell anyone!).

Realistic & Reachable New Year's Resolutions for 2017

  • Put away X amount of money per month. Whether it's a big chunk of your paycheck or a mere $10, you're making an investment in your future self, and that's something that will never go out of style. Save it for a new car, debt payments, or a trip abroad you've been dying to take.

  • Give love. Don't stop the goodwill just because the holidays are over. Make a conscious effort to tell the people in your life that you love them. Even if it's just a simple, out-of-the-blue text message.

  • Listen to your body. Listening to your body can mean to stop eating when you're full, to go to the doctor when you feel ill, or to sleep when you feel tired. Many times we try to control our bodies in ways that are unnatural to them. Be good to your body; you've only got one.

  • Listen to your heart. Forgive us for the cheesiness, but this popular piece of advice is hardly ever heeded as often as it should be. Make this year the year you actually give your soul what it desires. Maybe you love to paint but haven't touched a brush in years. Maybe you're in a bad relationship that should have ended a while ago. Maybe you just want to go to the park more often. Whatever it is your heart says it wants, listen to it.

  • Try something new. Opening your horizons to new experiences can only help you grow. You choose whether your new experience is minuscule (like signing up for a 5k or wearing the Couture Freebird Top) or major (switching careers or moving to the city). You never know what will come from a shift in your routine.

  • Cultivate happiness. Losing motivation is linked to losing happiness, which is something we don't want to happen in 2017. To hold onto happiness, keep focused on your goals (the above few are a good start!) and the things that make you happy. Find what it is that motivates you, and never let it go. Make a vision board to conceptualize what you want to see happen this year. Then, manifest those dreams both big and small.

We're wishing you all a beautiful year full of success, smiles, and, of course, impeccable style.

Share this these resolutions with the folks who you know need a little help taking advantage of their fresh slates.

XOXO,
